My favorite tools and utilities (for Windows computers)
I’ve got a new special item in this section, Ninite, which is a great tool for installing various neat tools and applications. Additionally I would like to recommend the Lifehacker Pack for Windows which contains a great compilation of useful tools and with a summary of each application. All of these applications can be downloaded using the Ninite tool.
- Launchy: Application launcher and general utility to boost efficiency using the keyboard
- SublimeText: Text/code editor
- PeerBlock: Internet security utillity, blocks incoming connections from supposedly bad sources (based on whitelist and blacklist)
- 7-Zip: File compressor
- CrashPlan: Backup utility with support for both local backup sources and internet (cloud) based storage (slow from Sweden)
- KeepIt: Internet/cloud based off-site backup service (good upload performance)
- SpeedFan: Keep track of all the fans and temperatures in your computer, also with the ability to control fan speeds
- FileZilla: FTP Client
- FreeFileSync: Directory sync utility – Fast and efficient tool to quickly synchronize/mirror directories
- ESET Nod32: Anti virus and internet security
- Hotkeys/Macros: AutoHotkey
- Notes: Evernote
- Foxit Reader: Fast and lightweight PDF reader
- TrayPal: Small utility with some handy features for developers (mainly)
